MERGER ANNOUNCEMENT!!

MERGER OF BRITISH COLUMBIA’S TWO SERIES CREATES THE ASA OK TIRE SPORTSMAN SERIES PRESENTED BY ADVANCE TESTING

ASA ADVANCE TESTING BC LM TOUR PR

SURREY, BC, CANADA (Monday, February 18, 2013) – It is with great excitement that we announce the merger of British Columbia’s two main Sportsman Racing Series.  The alliance comes after months of hard work behind the scenes between OK Tire Sportsman series President Gary MacCarthy, Kendall Thomas, ASA Advance Testing BC Late Model Tour President John Ross and ASA President Dennis Huth.

The new series, titled “ASA OK Tire Sportsman Series presented by Advance Testing” is expected to increase car counts at tracks throughout the province and build the sportsman class back to its former strength.  “We are so happy to have the continued support of ASA here in the province of BC,” says John Ross. “Their marketing support and national coverage give us a big advantage in getting exposure for our drivers and sponsors.”

The series will run the existing OK Tire Sportsman Series schedule throughout British Columbia on the Hoosier 970 tire run last season by the ASA Advance Testing tour.  All other rules will remain unchanged.

Advance Testing and OK Tire will work in conjunction as the title sponsors, while previous ASA Series Contingency sponsors will be welcomed into the newly named series.  “Our goal is to continue to build race & points purses with marketing partners throughout the province and the ASA gives us the greatest leverage for their exposure,” said series president Gary MacCarthy.

The payout structure will continue to work as it has in the past to encourage racers to come from all over, no matter the distance and we will be encouraging island racers with a $250 ferry payout for any that plan on making the trip.  “This merger will really help increase our car counts and that’s what we’re most excited about!” exclaims Thomas. “It’s what our fans, our tracks and our race teams want… great turnouts, top level competitors and exciting shows.”

“We are proud to sanction the ASA OK Tire Sportsman Series presented by Advance Testing,” Dennis Huth, ASA Racing President said. “We feel that this merger will be beneficial for the racers and the fans of British Columbia short track racing. We look forward to an incredible 2013 season.”

CANADA 200 STORY

HEMRICH WINS REG MIDGLEY MEMORIAL CANADA 200 AND CHAMPIONSHIP ON THE SAME NIGHT   by Fred Rannard, Jr.

Victoria, B.C., August 24 & 25, 2012...........Dave Hemrich of Delta, B.C. had the most successful night of his racing career this past Saturday as he won the Reg Midgley Memorial Canada 200 and the ASA Advance Testing BC Late Model Tour championship on the same night at Western Speedway in Victoria.
The 43 year old is now a two time winner of the Canada 200 (he also won in 2007) but the ASA BC title is the first series championship of his career.  Neither accomplishment came easily for Hemrich as he started the race 14th in the 22 car field and came into the weekend 35 points behind Tom Berrow in the season point standings.
When asked in the winner's circle interview what he was going to do next Hemrich shouted, "I'm going to Disneyland!"  He went on to say, "I knew we had a good chance to win the race but I honestly thought the championship would be tough to get because of the big point lead Tom had.  This is by far the biggest night of my racing career."  The victory celebration with his wife, two children, parents and crew went on for many hours after the race.
It was a dramatic 200 lap event because there were two great races to watch-the race for the first Reg Midgley Memorial trophy and the race for the season championship.  Langley's  Jason Tarasenko and Hemrich quickly worked their way to the front of the field and for about 150 of 200 laps they were never separated by more than a few car lengths.  And for much of that time Berrow was in third place.
Tarasenko took the lead on lap 31 and then for the middle portion of the race (laps 80-122) he led Hemrich and Berrow around the flat 4/10 mile oval.  On lap 123 Hemrich got by Tarasenko and the top three remained Hemrich over Tarasenko and Berrow until lap 160 when Berrow dropped out of the top five and his championship hopes began to fade.
Tarasenko got back around Hemrich for the lead on lap 176 with Victoria's Wade Bland now up to third.  With the crowd on its feet the top three weaved in and out of traffic for the final 25 laps.  On lap 197 Hemrich again got by Tarasenko and this time it was for good as he led the final three laps for the $1,500 payday aboard his Hemrich Brothers Garage-Harding Motorsports Supply-Richmond Racing Engines Chevrolet Impala.  Bland snuck by Tarasenko at the checkered flag to take second spot.  Two time Canada 200 champ Korbin Thomas charged back to finish fourth after suffering two flat tires early in the race.  Brent Morris rounded out the top five finishers.
With Hemrich winning the race Berrow needed to finish sixth or better to claim the championship.  Berrow ended up ninth and Hemrich won the title by just five points.  Bland was third  ahead of Thomas and Geoff Morris who were tied for fourth overall in the final season standings.
Year number two is now complete for Canada's only ASA sanctioned series.  Thanks to everyone for a great 2012 season and we look forward to seeing you in 2013.

HEMRICH WINS GORDIE MANNES MEMORIAL RACE by Fred Rannard, Jr.

Penticton, B.C., August 4 & 5, 2012......Dave Hemrich of Delta, B.C. was the winner of the 12th annual Gordie Mannes Memorial Race at Penticton Speedway this past weekend for the ASA Advance Testing BC Late Model Tour.
The six time and defending Agassiz Speedway champion had the most total points after the two nights and received the $1,700 top prize.  The race format awarded points for qualifying, heat races and main events both nights.
Hemrich drove his Hemrich Brothers Garage-Harding Motorsports Supply-Richmond Racing Engines Chevrolet Impala to a third place finish on Saturday night and fifth spot on Sunday.  He also set fast time the first night and was third quickest the next evening.  The 2010 race champion, Tom Berrow, of Coquitlam was second overall in the weekend points while last year's winner, Korbin Thomas from White Rock was tied for third with Geoff Morris.
In Saturday's 100 lap feature race Berrow took the lead on lap 25, after starting seventh, and dominated the final 75 laps on his way to the victory.  Brandon Carlson was second and Hemrich charged from the twelfth starting spot to finish third.  Mark Berrieau and Wade Bland rounded out the top five.
Sunday's main event, also 100 laps, was a non stop race that went green to checkered in just 25 minutes and 32 seconds.  Defending series champion, Geoff Morris of Victoria, led the entire race and won in convincing fashion.  He was the fourth different winner in the four races so far this season.
The two fastest qualifiers, Korbin Thomas and Matt Stephenson, moved up nicely to finish second and third after starting eleventh and twelfth.  Berrow was fourth and Hemrich was fifth.  Berrow remains the series season point leader.
Victoria's Ryan Wade won both main events in the Street Stock class while Chilliwack's Curtis Williams did the same in the Hornet division.  Over 60 cars from all over B.C. competed in the three classes during the two day show that is traditionally held each year on the BC Day long weekend.
The ASA Advance Testing BC Late Model Tour wraps up the 2012 season on August 24 and 25 at Western Speedway in Victoria with the Reg Midgley Memorial Canada 200.
